See the sights TOUR
Gold-crafting Indigenous tribes, Spanish colonialism, pirates and corsairs, African slaves, fortifications, Catholicism and The Inquisition, immigrants, Independence, cholera, drugs, crime, beauty pageants, books, art and movies: Cartagena has led a very interesting life!
With such a fascinating and turbulent history, you can bet your arepa de huevo that there are plenty of must-see sites and sights for visitors.
You can try and do it on your own.. but when does that ever work? You spend the day with your head in a book trying unsuccessfully to match up the dry text with all that's happening around you. Or you can take your chances on the "English-speaking" guide waiting at the entrance to the port or at the Clock Tower. He might be cheaper..(although not even) but don't be surprised if you spend a decent chunk of your day visiting commission-paying "Emerald Museums".
Yes, we're definitely biased.. but we say your best bet is to book a tour with Cartagena Connections.
You'll pay 50,000 COP/person or about $25 for 2 hours (as long as there are at least 2 people booked for the tour) and enjoy a relaxed and entertaining insight into the history and happenings of Cartagena.
The tour takes in keys sights in and around the centre of Cartagena. If you've had your fill of monuments and churches - we can focus more on other things you might be interested in. Gabriel Garcia Marquez? Shopping? Cuisine? Art? Music? Movies? etc etc Just let us know!
The price doesn't include entry fees and food. Also if you want to visit places outside the walled city (like Castillo San Felipe, La Popa, Bocagrande etc car/van rental or taxis can be arranged very easily but must be paid for separately).
