FERIA FAREX
Please keep me away from the Feria Farex. Every year I buy way too many of the super well priced, beautifully handmade things from independent craftspeople in more than 200 exhibitors from across Colombia. I mean, don't get me wrong, it is AMAZING but I am trying the whole no buy thing for 2020 and this place is like kryptonite to my resolve. If you didn't make the same resolution, this is some of the best buying you can do in Cartagena. FAREX stands for Feria de Artesanias de Exportacion -- so a fair for export quality handcrafts. It's an annual event that seems to get bigger and better each year. Once again, the feria is taking place in the Convention Centre of Getsemani.
Last year I bought the best handwoven hat in the world (I seriously get an average of 10 compliments per day I wear it), about 5 pairs of handmade shoes, too many earrings, handmade wooden toys for my niece, a hammock, some natural plant-based skincare, incredible coffee and chocolate and honey straight from the jungles of the Sierra Nevada and sold by the indigenous tribes that safeguard the region, beautifully embroidered cushion covers, some rainbow woven bench seats, and some salad servers for my mum.
If you are looking for gifts or souvenirs for yourself or others, there is no better place to go.
Who am I kidding? I am 100% going back again this year.

CARTAGENA FESTIVAL OF MUSIC
The world is a stage, and that expression is never truer than each Festival of Music in Cartagena, when every plaza and building and theatre and even Shipping Port becomes a stage for some of the best musicians in the world.
This year's festival seeks to explore the transition from classical to early romanticism in Vienna, under the theme "Lo Bello & Lo Sublime". In this case, the "beautiful" as a category will be interpreting classicism, the rise in perfection of all forms, harmony and balance. The "sublime", as a key to understanding first romanticism, alluding to human sentiment and wonder before the grandiose and infinite.
The music of Franz Schubert will act as the key thread linking the classic to the romantic, in particular, they will present 5 of the 9 symphonies of the Viennese maestro. Also being presented, will be works of Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven, which were inspiration to Schubert, and which characterize the transition from classic to romantic.
The program will be comprised of 34 concerts, an opera recital, a multitude of discussions, expositions, master classes, workshops and many other activities about music and musical instruments.
