FENIX BEACH CLUB

Dedicated to anyone who has risen from the ashes to emerge stronger, more powerful or even just less hungover.. Fenix Beach Club is a much needed addition to the beach scene in Cartagena.

Travel just 20 minutes by boat across Cartagena's bay and you will arrive at Pájaro Beach on Tierra Bomba Island. Already the benefits of visiting Fenix over some of the other beach and island options are apparent: proximity and the fact that when the high seas get high, Cartagena's sheltered bay keeps the waters to and from Fenix chill and adventure-free. It also means that boats leave all the way up until 1.30pm, perfect for sleeping in.

Upon arriving you'll find a huge, private space, filled with tasteful beds and dream-like finishings, set on white, palm-fringed sand. The music is loud and cool, with a rotating mix of DJs selecting the tunes.. the vibe is meant to be more party so if you'd rather peace and quiet.. this might not be your scene. That's not to say Fenix isn't relaxing. There's sun beds and a pool and lounges and plenty of that aforementioned sand to stretch out on and soak up some rays while your cocktails are being prepared.

One of the masterminds behind Fenix, Juan Pedro San Segundo, is the former owner of one of Bogota's most famous clubs/restaurants La Puerta Grande, which is to say, he knows what he is doing. Fenix is the combination of that experience and know-how, a great location and a capable team of food and bar folk that have created a menu that will keep the punters happy.

Food includes delicious traditional paellas, ceviches, fish tacos and very good version of the ubiquitous fish and coconut rice. We love the grilled octopus, and the vegetable summer rolls are light and refreshing. Drinks are classics with a tropical twist.

It's still pretty new, so Fenix is still working on building it's reputation as the best place to beach party in Cartagena.. but egged on by Juan Pedro's social-media active bonafide Colombian celebrity actress wife, Natalia Reyes (who can be spotted here every second weekend), it won't be long until the secret is out and the well-flipflopped hoardes will come flocking. Get in early and tell everyone you were here while it was still possible to score a beach bed.

The weekend Champeta/Afro dance classes led by Jose are super fun and worth the admission price alone.

In summary, Fenix is a goodlooking beach club with good food, good vibe, good facilities in an easy to get to location.

DAY PASS costs 195,000 pesos pp and includes
Return transport by boat from the main dock located at Muelle de la Bodeguita
Access to Fenix
Lunch (paella or Island lunch of fried fish, coconut rice, patacon and salad) and dessert
Use of pool and private beach, volleyball
Towels
Beach mat or bed
DJ

Daypass does NOT include:
extra food and drink
massages and other services
Marine tax paid directly to the port authority (currently 10,000 pesos for Tierra Bomba)

If you want all the above AND to guarantee a front-row spot on the beach, this option is priced at 210,000 pesos pp

If you prefer to order from the menu a la carte, the price is 140,000 pesos pp for your day pass and you just pay what you consume on top of that base amount. It definitely works out better value if you go with the set menu, but sometimes it's worth more to you to be flexible and order to your tastes, so the option is there.

The boats leave from Muelle de las Bodeguitas at 9.30am, 10.30am, 11.30am, 12.30pm and 1.30pm.

Good to know: Not sure why, but the kitchen does not open until 12noon. So if you arrive in the morning, don't arrive hungry

Your visit to Fenix must be booked in advance, so either send an email to info@cartagenaconnections.com , fill in the booking form, or if it's last minute, whatsapp our team on +57 317 333 7959 or +57 313 552 9647

You can also opt to stop off in Fenix on your way back from the islands for cocktails or lunch if you've hired a private boat and you won't have to pay entry costs. This can be a fun option, because Fenix is located within Cartagena Bay, so it is usually safe to stay here later than in the open water of the Rosario Islands. If you want us to make that booking for you, again please contact us on whatsapp or email.
