FENIX BEACH CLUB
Dedicated to anyone who has risen from the ashes to emerge stronger, more powerful or even just less hungover.. Fenix Beach Club is a much needed addition to the beach scene in Cartagena.
Travel just 20 minutes by boat across Cartagena's bay and you will arrive at Pájaro Beach on Tierra Bomba Island. Already the benefits of visiting Fenix over some of the other beach and island options are apparent: proximity and the fact that when the high seas get high, Cartagena's sheltered bay keeps the waters to and from Fenix chill and adventure-free. It also means that boats leave all the way up until 1.30pm, perfect for sleeping in.
Upon arriving you'll find a huge, private space, filled with tasteful beds and dream-like finishings, set on white, palm-fringed sand. The music is loud and cool, with a rotating mix of DJs selecting the tunes.. the vibe is meant to be more party so if you'd rather peace and quiet.. this might not be your scene. That's not to say Fenix isn't relaxing. There's sun beds and a pool and lounges and plenty of that aforementioned sand to stretch out on and soak up some rays while your cocktails are being prepared.
One of the masterminds behind Fenix, Juan Pedro San Segundo, is the former owner of one of Bogota's most famous clubs/restaurants La Puerta Grande, which is to say, he knows what he is doing. Fenix is the combination of that experience and know-how, a great location and a capable team of food and bar folk that have created a menu that will keep the punters happy.
Food includes delicious traditional paellas, ceviches, fish tacos and very good version of the ubiquitous fish and coconut rice. We love the grilled octopus, and the vegetable summer rolls are light and refreshing. Drinks are classics with a tropical twist.
It's brand new, so Fenix is still working on building it's reputation as the best place to beach party in Cartagena.. but egged on by Juan Pedro's social-media active bonafide Colombian celebrity actress wife, Natalia Reyes (who can be spotted here every second weekend), it won't be long until the secret is out and the well-flipflopped hoardes will come flocking. Get in early and tell everyone you were here while it was still possible to score a beach bed.
In summary, Fenix is a goodlooking beach club with good food, good vibe, good facilities in an easy to get to location.
