Located on a prime corner on the buzzy San Diego Plaza, Manglar has a variety of ambiences to match a variety of moods. The cocktail team is headed up by leading South American/World Bartender Adrian Madio who hails from Argentina but who has called Colombia home for many years now. He has crafted an interesting and complex menu of cocktails that highlights local ingredients and spirits and does not hold back on the wow-factor.
When it comes to the food menu, in our opinion this is where Manglar really shines. With dishes prepared over open flame and a focus on highlighting the best ingredients of the Caribbean coast, plates are substantial enough to satisfy, but not so big you will enter a food coma and have to cut your night short (this is definitely know to happen at other restaurants around town!). The smaller sizes allow you to sample a greater variety of flavors to keep your tastebuds stimulated. So far we have tried the salty and satisfying carimañolas; a typical fried snack made from yuca and stuffed with spiced crab, the fresh and zesty tuna tataki, "no me llames entrecote"; a perfectly prepared beef sirloin that comes with the most moreish truffled potato puree that you will be thinking about weeks later (speaking from experience), and the grilled octopus (one of the best versions of this popular dish we have found in Cartagena). For dessert we opted for the rum-soaked chocolate cake which is accompanied by a tart ganache of local corozo fruit. Already wanting to go back and re-order this with a Colombian coffee. We are not alone in loving everything, some of our most fussiest foodie friends have already moved Manglar to the top of their favorite restaurants list.
We have already alluded to this, but the other key reason to love Manglar is just how good looking it is. Plush coverings, warm lighting, a plethora of textures and finishings. The ambience is additionally helped by the nightly live entertainment featuring a roster of talented local musicians. And the upstairs dancefloor which gets going from about 10.30pm will seem like you are in on a local secret. Manglar also caters to groups looking for customised private experiences including cocktail workshops or private event space.
