STREETFOOD TOUR AKA SHORTCUT TO LOCAL
LET'S TAKE TO THE STREET AND EAT!
Bring your appetites and an adventurous attitude and join us as we hit the streets to experience food the way Cartageneros do.
Whether you are chasing a stopover snack or something more substantial, a healthy start or a sweet denouement, Cartagena's streets provide! And after our tour, you'll be equipped with the know-how to navigate all the tasting offerings like a local.
We passionately believe that one of the very best ways to gain an insight into the daily lives and culture of a people is through food.
This 2 (to 2.5) hour tour will get you up-close-and-personal with the real Cartagena as the colourful characters of the calle fill your bellies and warm your heart.
Even if you aren't keen on eating, the tour is like a short-cut to local; covering music, history, architecture, art, culture, politics (carefully..) and daily lives. (But let us know if you want a food-free tour and we'll discount the price).
Examples of some of the food we may see and sample (among others and subject to availability):
Patacon con queso
Deditos de queso
Mango biche
Tropical seasonal fruits
Arepa Chocolo
Arepa con queso
Agua de Coco
Arepa e Huevo
Papa Rellena
Carimañola
Enyucado
Boli
Samples of the food are included in the tour price. Some other things we may see and just point out and explain for you to try at another occasion.
This tour also includes an introductory visit to the vibrant community of Getsemani where you will see colourful streetart and get an understanding of daily Cartagena life.
Things that aren't food you might learn about:
What is champeta? vallenato? cumbia?
What is a tusa?
Who were the Zenu?
Where can I see Shakiro?
Who were the "Falsos Positivos"?
What's with the doorknockers?
What does it mean to be "Getsemanisense"?
How can I see sloths in Cartagena?
Why were the walls built?
When did Cartagena become a Spanish colony?
Where should I eat and drink for the rest of my time in Cartagena?
Are there any special events happening at the moment?
It really depends who and what pops up on the day, but feel free to bring along your questions as well.
We finish the tour in Getsemani, close to Plaza del Pozo and the restaurant Bonche.

WHO?
This is a good tour for people who don't really like tours.
This tour makes a fantastic orientation to everything Cartagena.
This tour does involve 2 hours of solid walking - so if mobility is an issue, or you are with kids etc you might want to book this as a private tour instead so you can incorporate more breaks or move more slowly.
Vegetarian? No problem! Everything can be veggie friendly. Gluten-free? Also good. If you don't eat cheese however, that's a bigger issue. This is a very cheesy tour. Let us know if you would prefer the food-free short-cut to local tour. Or book private and we can tailor the stops to you.
But Sunday/Public Holiday is my only day?? Sorry, because we want to maintain a high standard of tour, we will not offer this particular tour on these days because the majority of the vendors we work with and trust, don't work those days.
However we are happy to do a private tour that might incorporate a little bit of everything and hope that a majority of vendors come out that day. Or you can do the Getsemani focused tour.
