BIZARRE fOODS SUNDAY FOOD TOUR
Not so long ago, Andrew Zimmern brought his brand of weird and wacky food exploration to Cartagena.. he checked out the mercado bazurto (you can do this with me here), he ate streetfood (do that here), he went fishing with local fisherman (do that here) and he went off to eat things like crocodile and jungle rat in small villages on the outskirts of Cartagena.. and it's the last part of his epicly bizarre adventure that is the focus of this tour.
Here's what you'll do..
You'll meet the group in Centro at the second floor of Plaza de La Presentation before boarding air-conditioned transport. Over the next 6 hours, you'll visit villages such as Gambote, Sao Cayetano, Turbaco and Palenque where you'll chow down on such tasty treats as aligator tail, armadillo, jungle rat, and a scrumptious traditional African lunch made from a recipe that dates back 350 years. You'll also get the opportunity to make your own dessert; the famous cocada which fuels the economy of the heritage-listed Palenque. If folks are still hungry on the way back.. there's an opportunity for a chicharron pitstop on the way home. For the duration of the tour you will be accompanied by an English-speaking guide.
This is a really unique opportunity to visit villages that are normally ignored by or inaccessible to tourists.
The tour costs $85.00 per person and only runs Sundays from 10am - 4pm
The only problem is that due to the distances travelled and the costs associated with car-hire etc the tour needs a minimum of 5 people to make it worthwhile to operate. If they don't get the numbers, they don't go. Therefore advanced bookings are appreciated.
Send an email if you would like to make a booking or check availability.
How bizarre, how bizarre.
