TOWNHOUSE ROOFTOP
Townhouse rooftop is a breezy, palm-fringed, tropical delight that answers a whole bunch of really important Cartagena questions, such as; where can I go to enjoy a boozy weekend brunch?, where can I hang out on a rooftop bar at sunset and actually get good service and drinks? Where can I chill with drinks beside a rooftop pool even though I'm not a hotel guest? Where can I get really, really, really tasty guilty-pleasure type food to combine with the second bottle of tequila we just ordered? Where can I go to day drink (that may turn into stay all night drink)? Where will I find a fun, unpretentious (although maybe slightly sassy) crowd? Where will I be shazam-ing every second song on the playlist?
I could keep going, but suffice to say, Townhouse Rooftop has definitely filled many a need since it came into our lives in 2018.
Yes, non-guests can enjoy the rooftop bar and kitchen all day and night - from breakfast to late night snack. This is something that is surprisingly difficult to find in Cartagena and visitors often experience blackout periods if they want to eat or drink outside of the established schedule of lunch or dinner, at, gasp, 3.30pm, for example. If you have your swimwear handy, Townhouse is known to also be very flexible about you cooling off in the plunge pools (provided you're paying customers).
And yay! brunch! Every Saturday and Sunday, Townhouse offers the city's best, and let's be honest, only, bottomless boozy brunch. For a very reasonably priced 100,000, you can down unlimited Bloody Marys, Mimosas and Beers PLUS as many of the delicious breakfast tapas you like.
The vibe ambles between ambient chill to full on rambunctious.. cool playlist during the day, great DJs at weekends and special events. The team of barkeep and waiters are cool and attentive and service is easily some of the best in the city.
There's a fantastic menu of drinks and food items featuring all manner of deliciousness although, intentionally, not that much in the way of healthy. The owners Mark, Brandon and Portia, declared that they truly did consider a menu of vegan, zero-calorie, california gluten-free, superfoods, but in the process of designing the dishes, they got a little tipsy and all they wanted was comfort bar food that is easy to share. To be honest, it's a very good thing they did. The legion of Cartagena chefs who flock to Townhouse post-shift have elevated the rooftop's nachos to legendary status locally. True story: Carmen (from Carmen's) is downright addicted. I love the osso bucco spring rolls. The vegetarian sliders are super good and maybe even better than the meaty ones. The spicy tuna with crispy rice may not be totally original (hello Nobu) but it is 100% yum. The garlic shrimp with ciabatta to mop up the buttery goodness is a no-brainer. Am I painting a picture? It's booze food, and it's really good.
Drinks are just as winning. (Literally. Townhouse won last year's Tales of the Cocktail Best Hotel Bar for the America's). Tequila Mockingbird, White Tiger and Colombian Mule are favourites. And the frosé always goes down a treat. Or you may prefer to follow the neon sign's suggestion and order up a bottle of Champagne or Prosecco (see photos below for context). And the aforementioned Bloody Marys and Mimosas at brunch are best-friends with day-drinking.
And as a final bonus, Townhouse is located in an ideal spot, close to the restaurant zone off Parque Fernandez de Madrid, which makes it a perfect pre-post dinner option.
