If it's not holiday season, Monday and Tuesday nights can be pretty slim pickings in Cartagena.
At least that was until Eivissa, which seemed to commando roll onto the scene like some over-amped, flame-thrower-brandishing party-fiend shouting out RUMBA! to anyone within earshot and with a mission statement to save your Cartagena vacations from quiet nights in, to menace your liver and to incite bad decisions, all to a soundtrack that you simply would not tolerate under any other circumstances. And it's awesome.
And it's not just Monday and Tuesday. Every night, 7 nights a week, you can walk up all those stairs and enjoy the amazing views and a vibe that is definitely fun. There's a stage that showcases professional dancers intermixed with less impressive efforts from uninhibited/tipsy patrons (and often me). There's a DJ who doubles as a type of pyrotechnician, with flaming cans in either hand. There's acceptable drinks at acceptable prices. There's lots of young fun good looking travellers from around the world. If you are in your 30s you will likely feel old here, but that's ok. You're in a foreign city, it's a school night and noone's judging you, plus you can now afford the drinks, unlike when you were actually a student/backpacker. It's all attitude and anything goes.
The music is cross-over with leanings towards very commercial electronica and songs that seemed to have been a big hit in Latin America during the 90s but there'll also be plenty of Rhianna and Sean Paul.
In summary, this is the place we recommend if you want to find an instant party, any night of the week and get caught up in the craziness. Check out the photos below and you'll get an idea of exactly what you are signing up for.
