The Wednesday night parties at the Media Luna Hostel are a local institution. Ask any man, woman or well-informed child the best place to get your mid-week rumba on and they will undoubtedly point you this way. The parties are hot, sweaty, packed to the rafters with a vibrant mix of travellers and locals, and a heck of a lot of fun.
You'll find live music, DJs and MCs playing all the local latin favourites early but then moving into commercial house-music territory as the night progresses and the gringos get liquored up and more likely to dance.
Revellers cram into every cranny of the two-storeys to catch a vibrant rotation of live music, bands, DJs and MCs. The dancefloors are lively and the rooftop lilos are perfect for lounging whilst taking time out from the flirt-fest.
This party is hot so be sure to dress accordingly - singlets and shorts are the norm. You'll be dying to get up to the rooftop breezes on the terrace and might even join the line that will inevitably form, but the house policy is to wait until the live bands have finished before allowing access.. so be patient and cool down with some drinks while you wait to earn one of those privileged places up top.
