OBJECTS OF MY AFFECTION
Cool stuff worth making space for in your luggage, home, life. Welcome to my lust-haves..
TALA RESTREPO PRINTS
Oh my how I long for this cushion. Just look at how delightfully tropical it is with its ludicrously bright pineapple, hibiscus and lime-green trim. I can taste pina coladas, hear Wham! singing "Club Tropicana" and feel the sand in my toes at its very sight.
Medellin model-turned-designer, Tala Restrepo's prints are crazily covetable. In addition to cushions, she's whacked her designs onto scarves, pashminas and canvases.
I spied her wares in Mia & Co (along with a BUNCH of other stuff I want.. like glitzy jaguar jewellery and an awesome pink shoulder-padded bodysuit).
You can find Mia & Co in Centro Historico, Calle del Arzobispado or in Bocagrande on Avendia San Martin. Please don't buy the pink bodysuit. Ta.

ALVIPOP
Brighter-than-bright, kitschy and cool, funky and fun; the irrepressible and irresistible artist Álvaro Emiliani, better known as ALVIPOP delivers exactly the kind of Cartagena-centric souvenir we all want -- something that is representative of the city, of our memories, and the warm and happy times spent here.. minus the tackiness that will have us hiding our purchase as soon as the travel glow wears off.
These are one-off pieces of art that are just as popular with Colombian celebrities as they are with in-the-know tourists. Snap yours up at savvy retailers around Cartagena.

SIERRA SUNGLASSES
Uni-sex sunglasses, made in Cali, Colombia by hand (by HAND dammit) from wood. Their classic, wayfarer style looks good on everyone. And wooden you know it (haha) I TOTALLY want a pair.
When I save up the cash, I'm buying mine from the wonderful Love me Wappa on Calle Colegio, around the corner from the Clock Tower.
If you are equally enamored, snap up a pair for yourself and then start practicing this conversation:
Soon-to-be-jealous-person: Hey! Where did you get those awesome and unique wooden sunglasses that appear to be handmade from?
You: Oh? These? I got them on my recent holiday in Cartagena, Colombia (cue opportunity to start talking about your AMAZING holiday).

LOVE ME WAPPA BIKINI
If you're going to be getting your jubbly bits out in front of all these model-esque Colombian women, you are darn-well going to want a cute bikini.
Luckily Cartagena does the flattering cute bikini really well. The one I have my eye on is from the nicely-named Love Me Wappa (a beautiful girl, in Spanish, is Guapa.. which, when called out with a Costeño accent becomes waaapa).
The patterns are super cute and able to be mixed and matched for maximum wearablity. The material is the right kind of stretchy that holds you in, in all the right places. The cuts are flattering. The store is girly and pretty. The designers are Colombian. NEED.
